Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic
DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY AT KITETE HOSPITAL
The department of obstetrics and gynecology has 3 units which includes:-
- General obstetric unit
- General gynecology unit
- Acute care unit/fetal maternal medicine unit (future plan).
Outpatient Clinic
- Antenatal clinic.
- Postnatal clinic.
- PMTCT-clinic.
- Family planning clinic.
- Cervical cancer screening clinic.
- Gynaecology clinic (for patients with AUB, infertility, reproductive tumors and malignancies, post-op patients ,etc).
The department runs an outpatient clinic to follow up patients attending outpatient clinic including those discharged from the wards and new patients referred from other centers but did not need admission. These are patients with chronic or long standing illnesses such as infertility, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, post op follow up patients, etc.
Ward Rounds.
In each ward (currently there is two wards), ward rounds are conducted on daily basis by assistant medical doctor/registrar/specialist. Major ward rounds are done twice a week by specialist along with other junior doctors. Teaching rounds are done daily by the doctor oncall with medical students undertaking diploma in clinical medicine.
Training.
The department is involved in training diplomas’ medical students. We will also be involved in training intern doctors (future plan) and nurse students and from time to time we receive students from other universities/college.
Acute Care Unit/Feta Maternal Medicine
Deals with patients admitted with acute/severe illnesses and need close monitoring and care until they stabilize. Such conditions include severe pre eclampsia, eclampsia, patients with complication of anaethesia, meningitis in pregnancy, severe respiratory distress in pregnancy, unconscious patients etc. patients get close monitoring and management and once have stabilized are transferred to the normal wards (antenatal and postnatal wards).
